About
Koh Samui
 Koh
Samui, like other idyllic seaside sanctuaries with white sand
beaches, was first discovered by backpackers in the early 1970's
when a thatched hut without running water and electricity was
regarded as heaven-on-earth.
Samui's
archipelago is rapidly becoming the Caribbean of Asia with the
advent of regular passenger and vehicle ferry service from Surat
Thani and the opening of an airport with frequent flights from
Bangkok, Phuket and Singapore.
Visitors can now enjoy the tranquil peace and serenity, on this
thriving island which now offers a full range of accommodations
and dining possibilities, from the humblest bungalows to five-star
luxury resorts.
Despite
the mass of resort development, Samui still maintains the classic
image of a tropical beach fringed by coconut palms.

Koh
Samui is situated in the Gulf of Thailand, 84 km west of Surat
Thani. It has a total area of 247 square km. It is 21 km wide
and 25 km long and has a ring road (Taweerat Pakdee Rd.) 50
km long. One third of the total area is an open plain surrounding
a mountain.
There
are three seasons on Koh Samui; rainy season from May to October;
cool season from November to January (Monsoon); summer is between
February and April.
Getting
to Koh Samui
From
Bangkok you can travel by road, and rail, leaving the capital
in the evening or at night and arriving in Surat Thani the next
morning.
Then
you may take a boat from Pak nam Tha Thong pier to Koh Samui
or alternatively use the car ferry from Amphur Donsak, Surat
Thani. You can also reach Koh Samui by air.
Traveling
by Air
Bangkok
Airways has return service from Bangkok to Koh Samui ten times
daily. Traveling time is 1 hour 10 mins. Thai Airways International
has flights from Bangkok to Surat Thani 3 times daily. Traveling
time is 1 hour.
Traveling
by Rail
There
are trains operating from Bangkok to Phunpin station in Surat
Thani every day but we recommend the 18:30, 19:45 and 22:35
hr services from Bangkok, arriving at Phunpin 05:34, 06:42,
and 07:20 am respectively.
